Fifteen companies brought in fresh capital last week
Over $219M poured into Boston-based companies last week. (10/13 - 10/20).
SaaS, Life Sciences, Robotics, Solar, Beer, and more saw investment.
My name is Nick Stuart and I’m a senior finance student at the University of New Hampshire. I’m starting this newsletter because I’m tired of scouring the internet for news and developments in the world of Boston Tech VC deals. For a city that has had more $1B+ exits and has generated more exit value than anywhere else outside of San Francisco, it seems odd that it doesn’t get consistent coverage from big tech publications.
I want to change that by providing short and sweet updates on the happenings in Boston’s Tech VC scene on a consistent basis. As time goes on, I’m hoping to fine-tune my writing skills and provide the long-sought-after storytelling that Boston deserves. Check out my updates below:
Stride Funding (formerly AlmaPack), based out of Boston, Dallas, and SF, raised a $2.14M Seed Round from GSV AcceleraTE, Sinai Ventures, Slow Ventures, and the Strada Education Network. Stride creates Income Sharing Agreements (ISAs) for student loans.
Realtime Robotics raised an $11.7M Series A, bringing their total raised to $21.25M. Investors included the Duke Angel Network, Hyundai Motors, Mitsubishi Electric, Omron Ventures, Scrum Ventures, SPARX Group, and Toyota AI Ventures. Realtime develops specialized processors for industrial robots and autonomous vehicles.

Rebion, developer of the diagnostic tools for vision loss in children, raised an $8.68M Angel Round from undisclosed investors. Check out their iOS app that simulates what a baby can see.
Glytec, the Waltham-based developer of a system that improves insulin management and glycemic control, raised $12.49M, bringing their total raised to $53.6M
Altiostar raised $118M in a Series C1, bringing their total raised to $347M. Altiostar increases the efficiency of telecommunications networks. The investment was led by Qualcomm Ventures, Rakuten, Tech Mahindra, and Telefonica.
GTxcel, which has developed a unified publishing platform, raised $3.29M in a Series D1, bringing their total raised to $36.23M. Active investors include Square 1 Bank for debt and New Science Ventures in equity investment.
Chronic care management platform Persivia raised a $15M Series C led by Petrichor Healthcare Capital Management. Their total raised is now $26.85M.
Language I/O, which has a Wyoming and Boston presence and specializes in customer communication software, raised a Seed Round from Breakthrough 307.
Willie’s Superbrew (no, not Grillo’s Pickles) raised a $3.06M Angel Round. Willie’s is a craft brewery specializing hard seltzers with real fruit.

Schipher, developers of a medical prediction technology for autoimmune diseases, raised $25M in their Series C, bringing their total investment to $34.9M.
4D Path raised a $1.42M angel round. They provide universal cancer detection technologies.
Sistine Solar, which provides aesthetic improvements to solar panels to make them more attractive and/or compliant with HoA’s, raised $2.74M. Investors included Energy Foundry, MCEC, and Thin Line Capital.

Mable, a wholesale e-commerce platform for grocery stores, raised $3.1M in a seed round. Participating investors included Accomplice, David Olk, Founder Collective, James McCann, Laurent Amouyal, and Venrock.
Building Engines, a SaaS solution for commercial real estate owners and managers, raised $12.7M in a Venture Round from Wavecrest Growth Partners.
Belmont, MA - Based Spare-it, raised $210K in an Angel Round. Spare-it is developing a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) platform to help workplaces reduce their waste. They use connected scales, a mobile app, and a powerful data platform to track waste in the workplace.

Eni is launching a Cleantech VC arm in Boston. They have already made two investments in Boston companies Commonwealth Fusion Systems and Form Energy.
AllRaise opened a chapter in Boston this week. AllRaise aims to increase female representation in the world of venture capital — and they chose some pretty amazing women from Boston to make this happen. Their Boston steering committee will have Emily Green (Board Director & Adviser to several companies), Holly Maloney (MD at General Catalyst), Rana el Kaliouby (Affectiva CEO), and Sarah Fay (MD at Glasswing).
